From La Bergerie du Mas Delon, two main caves are within an hour's drive: the Clamouse cave, 30 km away in the Hérault gorges, and the Demoiselles caves, 35 km away above Ganges. Each offers a different, complementary experience.

Three exceptional caves less than an hour's drive from La Bergerie du Mas Delon.
The closest to the gîtes, at Lauroux, and the southernmost of the Larzac caves. An underground river runs through it, its source still unknown — it was this water that drew the first humans here 5,000 years ago, leaving behind pottery, burials and ornaments. What strikes you is the variety of shapes and the range of colours.

At the entrance to the Hérault gorges, 2 km from Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, the Clamouse cave is famous for its aragonite crystals and remarkable limestone formations — a richness that makes it one of the most visited caves in France. Above the village of Ganges, the Demoiselles caves are one of the largest show caves in France. A giant 30-metre stalagmite, known as the Virgin and Child, is its crown jewel. Guided tour and access by funicular.
On the Larzac plateau, the Devèze cave features limestone formations of exceptional delicacy and variety. Less busy than Clamouse or the Demoiselles, it appeals to visitors looking for a quieter, lesser-known site.
The Clamouse cave and the Hérault gorges combine perfectly in a single day. In the morning: the cave tour. In the afternoon: a swim at the Pont du Diable and a stroll around Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. A full day out just 30 km from the gîtes.
It stays cool in the caves (around 14-16°C all year round): bring a light jacket even at the height of summer. Guided tours last 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the cave. Booking is recommended in high season (July-August).
